Overview
Government College Mirpur, established in 1944, offers five Intermediate programmes and thirteen four-year BS programmes. The new site has five pages (Home, About, Programmes, Admissions and Contact) written for prospective students and their parents.
Problem
The college had only a single WordPress landing page. The detailed BS admission rules were in the printed prospectus, so the information a student needed before applying was hard to reach online.
My role
I led the project from start to finish. I worked from the college’s prospectus, set the design direction, built the site using AI coding tools, and tested every page.
To confirm: Confirm how you want to describe your role and who else was involved.
Process
I transcribed all the BS rules from the prospectus (pages 23 to 28) into a clear Admissions page with an index of its sections. After the first version, I redesigned the site twice, the second time modelled on the layout of an established college website that I used as a reference.
The pages are rendered to plain HTML when the site is built, so the published site needs about 1 KB of JavaScript and works even with scripts switched off.
Key decisions
- Nothing is invented. Where the college has not supplied text (history, mission, the principal’s message), that section does not appear.
- Photo slots describe the photo that is needed instead of using stock images of another college.
Progress and next steps
The site is built and tested locally: 72 automated browser tests pass, accessibility checks report zero violations, and Lighthouse mobile scores are 99 to 100. Going live needs the college’s domain and hosting details.
Reflection
To confirm: Write two or three sentences: what you learned, and what you would do differently.
